I am getting married on February 9th (yay!)
I originally wanted a simple bouqet of white roses, but then I realized that I would have to pay the price for roses right before Valentine's Day, and that is not ok with me.
So I am trying to come up with other white flowers that are simple and romantic, I was thinking maybe mixing roses and lisianthus, maybe peonies??? I thought that if I mixed roses with another flower it would help cut the costs. I dont really know for sure. I only need my bouqet and my sisters/MOH.
Also, what flower should I choose for the boutineers? I want it to be one of the flowers in the bouqet so that it matches.... Help please, thanks in advance!!
Flower suggestions? Please help?
Peonies are not in season in February which means that it may also cost you for them. My bouquet consisted of white roses of various tones, stock (which is soft in texture and comes in a variety of pale colors and white), cream colored gerber daisies and some type of pink filler. My girls bouqets were similiar they just had opposite color of mine. For example, I had the white roses with light pink stock and they had pink roses with white stock. Most people are going to be buying red roses for valentines day so I would suggest talking to your florist to see if he would charge you normal price for white roses (if that is what you truly want) instead of the valentine day charge. My florist basically charged me a flat rate for my bouqet and it was up to me what I wanted to put into it. However, if I wanted something that was completely out of season then he would have to charge me more because he is charged more for those particular flowers. I wish you luck and best wishes.
Reply:I would suggest mixing white lilies with the white roses. For my own wedding I had a bouquet with white lilies and dark red roses and I think it was a great bride's bouquet. The groom's boutonnière was a dark red rose.
If you do choose lilies, make sure to remove all the pollen from the flowers, as it can leave nasty stains on your bridal gown (this is what my florist told me).
You can also have a look at this wedding bouquets photo gallery (150+ different ideas...) and choose a couple of ones you like:

Then I would suggest visiting a florist and asking her straight forward how you could make a bouquet similar to those you liked but would not be too expensive right before Valentine's day.
All the best for your wedding!!!
Reply:Simple white for the boutonnieres would be the classic stephanotis (sorry, not sure of spelling and spellcheck was no help).
For your bouquet - are your bridesmaids wearing white, too? Why do you want just white? It will fade away against your gown unless you have tons of greenery. I'd include touches of your wedding colour(s) as well, at least as accents. For example, if the BMs are wearing pink, you could include a stargazer lily in your bouquet which is mostly white, with a pink edge.
Mixed bouquets are absolutely lovely -

Reply:I had calililies
beautiful and elegant, yet easy to match with any other flowers you need.
Reply:Calla Lillies and order them NOW and get a price today so you don't pay VD prices.
Reply:First of all, peonies are very expensive, especially since they won't be in season in February. Stick to flowers that are in season, like roses, lisianthus or tulips. Roses are not that expensive when you're talking about flowers.
I got married this November and had a bouquet of roses, lisianthus, with these reddish brown seeds around the bottom. This is not a great picture of it, but you kinda get the idea: http://www.projectwedding.com/photo/list...
For bouts we used roses with bits of hydrangeas. http://www.projectwedding.com/photo/list...
Reply:Roses are the most popular flower in most weddings.
A way to cut cost is to use artificial flowers too. If you cant find exactly the right bud you want, you can always use hot glue.
I had Lily of the Valley in mine. I also like the lisianthus better than peonies.
Reply:Calla Lilly?
Reply:If you don't care if the flowers are real or not, you can go to any craft store (or Wal-Mart) and get flowers and everything you need to make your own bouqet of flowers and the supplies for the boutineers also. The flowers for my wedding were fake and now I get to keep them forever!!
Reply:speak to your florist about what will be available at reasonable rates.. that might be early enough before V Day to not be a huge expense.. consider getting the boutineers made from silk flowers to save money.. it will look the same in photos and men don't care if it smells nice..
Reply:Why not hydrangeas and roses, they are puffy so you don't have to use too many, they should fill it out and aren't too expensive. I think they come in white. Peonies are pretty, dahlias or daisies. Here, check this:

Reply:All flowers are going to have higher prices. Not just roses.
The only way to really avoid paying holiday penalties is to do silk flowers or order wholesale roses from an online dealer and arrange them yourself.
Reply:White tulips might be beutiful, parrot tulips have an interesting frilled edge and double princess tulips look very similar to peonies.
Peonies may be difficult to get that time of year.
Another option instead of your traditional white rose which will be very expensive at vday is to maybe go with a cabbage rose. Large and lots and lots of petals, looks like a peony as well.
Other options can be amaryllis which is a great winter flower. Narciscus which are white winter flower and smell wonderful.
It really depends on the style of your wedding. For a bout. keep it smaller, not to over whelming, the tulips would be nice for that purpose. or a single rose accented with a smaller flower like the narciscus
Reply:lilies, baby's breath?
Reply:well it depends on what colour your sisters dress is.
my sisters all wore res dresses and their bouquest were red and white roses while mine was white lillies with red roses though it.
email me and i'll send you a pic.
Reply:why not use silk flowers? They look beautiful forever and they dont have a huge price spike around that time. Look at these beautiful bouqets.
