Flower Centerpieces?

I'm not a big flower person, never was. Plus, I can't be around too many b/c my allergies go crazy. I'm having the traditional bouquet, bridesmaid's bouquet, etc. But, do I have to have flower centerpieces. I was thinking about doing something with candles instead.

Will my tables look funny? What are some other non-flower centerpiece ideas?
Flower Centerpieces?
Hi, I don't think they will look funny. I have been doing floral arrangements for a very long time (since a child). I own my own business now. Have you thought of using silk floral centerpieces with candles? You can also give these away as Thank You gifts to people you are really close to. Visit my site at PetalsNLace, com and email me for some tips if you want. There are a lot of fun things you can do that will look elegant. Good Luck and Congratulations.
Reply:What about "Edible bouquets" they are bouquets designed to look like flowers but are made from fresh fruit. Or cookie bouquets that the cookies could be the wedding favors your guests take at the end of the night. Putting candles around either would be great. Either way - nothing to clean up at the end of the night!
Reply:I don't think they would look funny at all. Something with floating candles in water or something like that would look pretty...If you wanted some extra color that you are not getting from flowers you could always use food colouring to add a little bit of your wedding colour to it.

You could also use some shear fabric or shafon and wrap it around the base to give it that little something extra too.
Reply:Of course not! Plus not having flowers saves money. I do have this idea...I'm not sure it's what you're looking for or not. If I'm completely off, I do apologize!! This allows you to have the "flowers" without the sneezing, and candles are there to give the wonderful intimate glow. Maybe you will like this...I sure hope! If not, best of luck finding what you need. :)

Reply:Not sure when your wedding is but if its in the Fall you could do pumpkin and gourds.

I was once at a wedding where the center pieces were goldfish in bowls.

Could you do silk flowers instead of real ones? I know you say you are not a flower person but there are really good quality silk flowers out there. Specifically from a company called Silk Botanica.

You could do mini topiaries or bonsai trees.

just a few of my thoughts, CONGRATS!
Reply:Candles are nice ive seen that done in place of flowers. Do vases filled with water and little gold fish or something thats cute.
Reply:Hi there. Your table will not look funny at all. I've seen fabulous centerpieces with candles, maybe a pillar candle in the middle and little ones around. That way people can see each other when sitting at the table. Maybe chose to incorporate things that are special to you both. My friend got married at the beach so she had candles with shells and sand. They were gorgeous!! Another friend who was allergic to flowers had a tall clear vase with a small bunch of pussywillows in it and then votive candles around. Also gorgeous! The selection of candles and holders are abundant these days so I think you would have no problem finding what works for you. And I think candles add beautiful light to a reception, more intimate. Look at this as a creative adventure and I am quiet sure what ever you decide upon will be perfectamundo. I wish you wedding bliss and bliss beyond!!
Reply:Putting three candles pillars of varying sizes: 3, 6, and 8(9) inches on a plate charger look great. Or you can put something that is an interest or hobby for both of you, such as birdhouses, car models, photographs, etc. Another idea is something that will do double duty such as a plate of cookies, or a small cake that feeds 10-12 people at each table. This way the people at the table can cut it and have it for dessert.

Since bakers and reception venues charge per slice, it shouldn't be an issue if they make a large cake to feed 100 people, or 10 cakes that feed 10 people each. If it's a problem for them, then ask them why they charge per slice, and not per cake tier.
Reply:someone on here had a cute idea of putting butterflies in a fishbowl and then at the designated time, releasing the butterflies all at the same time. i don't know who she was but i thought it sounded really cute.
Reply:i had square mirror plates on top was a 'hurricane vase' that i trimmed with crystals on a wire (found at a craft store) filled with loose crystals and a 6" pillar candle. on each corner of the mirror there were votive candles and rose petals were scattered on the table. *(i have pictures if you want to see email me). its really beautiful and elegant, plus its a great way to incorporate colors of your wedding. *(i was valentines day weekend so everything was red).
Reply:I hate it when people use big flower centerpieces because then you can't see the person across from you. That happened to me and my uncle at a wedding. Candles sound nice.
Reply:Fruit can be a very nice centerpiece, limes, apples, pomegrantes especially in the spring and summer.

You can do a large bowl filled with limes and have flowting candles with one solitary floating flower (or none at all)

Pick a fruit that is a match to your wedding colors....
Reply:feathers. no kidding. for example if you are using black or blue in your wedding peacock feathers are awesome.
Reply:Candles would be good, or big vases with colorful fruit or something else in it. Or even mini topiaries which you can maek yourself with a flower pot, dowel and two styrafoam balls, and fake ivy or other leaves. Just ideas.
Reply:How about ivy bowls (can purchase in Craft Stores like Beverly's) and colored rocks whch you can also buy at craft stores. You put the colored rocks in the bottom - then fill with water (colored or not) and then float voitive candles in the water. You can also get the candles which look like voitive candles but are battery operated. Or you can do the same with the bowls %26amp; rocks them float one flower in each bowl. You could even set the bowls on a round piece of mirror which will reflect the water and candles. Very nice - romantic look. Good Luck..
Reply:I don't think that it will look funny. It is your wedding and your day! Do what makes you happy. I am doing candles for my centerpieces. I am not a big flower person myself and my FH has bad allergies to pollen and stuff.

There are so many different things you can do with candles that will look great. Good luck!

I put in a few websites of candle centerpieces in the sources section.
Reply:Have you seen the tall cylinder vases where people put some color stones or something on the bottom and maybe one stem flower and then fill it with water even color water and a floating candle on the top. And you can have maybe 3 different sizes on each table.flower
