How about Nemesia Sunsatia 'Banana'?

(click on the "images" link and then click on the 2nd photo from the left-the close up)

I grow Nemesia and they do look similar to snapdragons in flower form. But this one does look like Nemesia. :)
Reply:I can't be sure, but from the shape of the petals it appears to be a snapdragon (antirrhinum majus). It's an annual and as a child I liked to gently pinch the head of the flower and watch it open like a "dragon" mouth.

Reply:I thought snapdragon at first, too, but I think snaps have the two lower petals are cupped.

Not that I have a better answer.

Nice picture, though.

The cheating flower guy?

Have you heard about this guy? He sent his mistress flowers and his wife found a thank you note that the flower company had sent him, contacted them and had a copy of the bill sent to her, and now she is asking for more in the divorce. He is also suing the flower company for 1.5 million dollars for 'pain and suffering' can you believe this guy?
The cheating flower guy?
This is absolutely stupid. It's just a scam to get money. A thank you card is always sent and if the guy didn't want his wife to know then he shouldn't have sent them!!!! He shouldn't blame the flower company on his stupid mistake to cheat on his wife.
Reply:Naturally this guy with no integrity is blaming the flower company, which did nothing wrong, for the consequences of his own wrongdoing.

Is this man a lawyer? Lawyers often do seem to prefer the law to moral integrity.
Reply:Got what he deserved. Don't want to get caught cheating? DON'T CHEAT!
Reply:"pain and suffering" ? you have got to be kidding me what about the wife finding out that her husband is cheating. I feel bad for her not him.

How about using shades of green like the flower is surrounded by leaves? Another thought-contrasting plain background, like maybe, a soft yellow with hints of the flower color muted on four corners of picture. I see it in my mind, so sorry no pictures! Good Luck!

I think you don't have to do much if you make the flower striking enough. Perhaps you can do an abstract design that "mimics" the same shape of the flower or some lines coming out from the corners similar to the lines of the flower.

When crossing a red flower and a white flower?

when crossing a red flower and a white flower and the offspring is a pink flower is this an example of codominance or incomplete dominance?
When crossing a red flower and a white flower?
This is an example of incomplete dominance.

Incomplete dominance is when a new third "trait" is shown.

Codominance is like a cat's fur color. You know those black and white cats? They are showing codominance.

Hope that helps :)
Reply:this is an example of codominance...this is because the pink flower has both a white and red trait.....the pink flower shares both a red and white property...

I need flower ideas for my Summer wedding?

Okay, My bridemaids dresses are a cranberry red color. I really like the Stargazed pink lily- thats main flower. So i do want maybe a red or white rose in there but either a pale yellow or orange flower. My prob is i not to good with picking out a summer season flower. There are many but i dont want it to catch more attn than the lily. PLZ help whether its by name or a pic. My wedding is June 14th and i need to figure out what i want. *thank you for helping me out*
I need flower ideas for my Summer wedding?
You can do almost anything. I'm using tons of tropicals. My main theme is Orchids (fuschia) but I'm also using Stargazers and a lot of greenery. I'm mixing orange Dahlias in as well. Look.

http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/r...

I agree that you need a shorter, stockier flower to compliment to boldness of the Stargazer and I think the Dahlia is a much better choice than roses or carnations which are just too . . . weddingish ha ha! I mean they're more ordinary and you can get Dahlias in many colors and varieties. Just a few options below:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/awungfoo/11...
Reply:Just go to the florist... they have tons and tons of flowers you never even heard of! Make them work for you!
Reply:I love, love Stargazer lilies... so beautiful and unexpected with the deep red dresses. Maybe some white stock or pale yellow freesias with them? Both flowers are smaller, more delicate, to play off the boldness of the lilies. (And all of them have a lovely smell.)

Somebody else mentioned really USING your florist for advice and recommendations. That's a great idea. You're paying them for the flowers... might as well get their advice. Just be aware that sometimes they will steer you to the more expensive flowers. Make sure they know what your budget is.
Reply:I think your on track with the orange or yellow going with it. I suggest maybe something like this

Beside silk and plastic flower where are some real wedding flower websites?
Hello!

If you would like to choose your bouquet by color or your favorite flower you could try:

http://www.myweddingflowerideas.co.uk/we...

Roses are perfect for wedding flowers - they come in lots of colours and are available all year round. You can also use them whatever your wedding style - simple informal country style weddings or glamorous and elegant.

Reply:I agree with you!

If you are going with real flowers, go locally. We use a produce store that has amazing selection and great prices. We buy in bulk.

The reason you want local is, you have no recourse with a florist online and lord-knows-where, getting flowers from ???

Local people are going to make it right. Usually they have delivery. and can hold it for you. Online you might get them the day before and are scrambling for refrigerator space or find the heat has killed everything.
Reply:Search online for your local flower shops. Some will have a webpage with wedding bouquet and flower pics. Also may help in choosing a florist if you know they can already do what you want.

Reply:Martha Stewart has some great ideas.

Where do you live? Check in your community to see if you have wholesale flowers....you can make your own centerpieces and boquets for super cheap.

Good Luck
Reply:If you are looking for website to buy real flowers I would say no. I looked around but no one has a garauntee, so you could end up with half dead flowers for your wedding and nothing you can do about it.

A florists is your best idea but always check around for prices. A private owned florist is going to be cheaper than a national chain. I got estimates ranging from $320-1350 for the exact same flowers.

If price is what you are worried about choose flowers that are in season. Carnations are a timeless classic and only run about .40 each when you buy them in bulk from a florist.

If you are just looking for pictures so you have ideas, go to yahoo.com type in bridal bouquet, or wedding bouquet and when the search is returned click images at the top, it will show you nothing but pictures.

Can my flower girl do something besides toss flower petals down the aisle?

I have 4 flower girls (2 younger, 2 older) and my wedding is tropical. I would like 2 of them to toss shells (instead of flowers) and I need a job for the other 2 - any unique suggestions??

Thanks!
Can my flower girl do something besides toss flower petals down the aisle?
first of all shells would be very difficult for everyone else in the wedding party to walk on and once the ceremony is over your guests are going to be walking up the aisle and trying not to ankle over on these shells. you should rethink that idea.

at our end of the world you are not allowed to toss anything, including flower petals, because of the huge cleaning up it requires after the services. the time and expense are issues.

so we have had to do away with that idea.

instead our flower girls, and junior bridesmaids, each carried a small nosegay and when they each arrived at the appropriate aisle, stopped and presented the nosegay to the mother of the groom, the mother of the bride, and the grandmothers of the groom and bride. the girls took it upon themselves to drop a little curtsey as they presented the bouquets - everybody loved it.

it might be something you want to think about.

two of the girls were three and four years old respectively, and the other two were six and seven. they all managed beautifully.

good luck on your wedding day and have a great married life.
Reply:tossing shells? that doesn't sound like a good idea. what if they got too zealous with the tossing and hit one of your guests? kids aren't very predictable!

our flower girls didn't toss anything, they just carried tiny bouquets and walked down the aisle before the bridesmaids.

giving out leis is a good idea though.
Reply:My wedding is in the park and i decided that i want my girls to blow bubbles. I thought about them holding candles but the wind is only going to turn them off but maybe thats something you can use and if not you can always google your question or something. You never know what you might find. Good luck!
Reply:The only advice I can recommend is SKIP THE SHELLS. Just think of people stepping on them and grinding the bits and pieces into the carpet of the church!!! Oh, no!!

And the flower girls don't have to "toss" anything...they can just carry flowers. My flower girl was too young to understand the concept, so I just gave her a basket bouquet and she was thrilled. So have the younger ones carry the flowers and the older ones toss the petals or something along those lines perhaps.
Reply:I'm getting married in July and am having 4 flower girls, all under the age of 4. I think for the younger girls it's easier to have them blow bubbles because they can grasp the concept of blowing bubbles as being fun, whereas with the throwing flowers they just get confused.
Reply:You realize that you will be walking on these shells, right? That will be uncomfortable and could lead to a serious fall or injury. Tossing shells, while unique and cute, just doesn't seem very sensible.

As for other ideas... they could blow bubbles down the aisle or toss streamers or something. But flower girls generally do what their title indicates... throw or carry flowers.
Reply:The job of the flower girl is to toss flower petals. Maybe you have two too many if you don't have anything for them to too. If you must have the two extra why don't you have them toss (or pass) tropical flowers ( or fake lays) to the guests (just on the aisle) for a nice souviner.
Reply:Well when my cousin had her wedding 2 years ago the flower girls were supposed to drop the peddles right before the bride entered (the usual) well anyway they got confused and after the wedding was over and the bride and groom were walking down the isle hand and hand, the flower girls behind started throwing the peddles up in the air as they were leaving it was SO cute! so what you should do is right when your pronounced husband and wife and start walking back to the end of the church have the girls follow you and have them throw flowers up in the air. It's really cute. Well anyway hope I' helped. Hope it goes well!
Reply:They can toss Lei's
Reply:I was a flower girl when I was younger, I didn't throw anything, just carried flowers. Their is no requirement that they have to throw anything. Keep in mind everyone is going to be walking on that aisle, and probably don't want to be stepping and crushing shells.

Maybe you should just have them toss tropical flower petals if you really want them to all have a job. It's not creative, but more practical.
Reply:Unless you are getting married on the beach, have them pick up the shells, because someone is going to have to do it. And I don't think you want to be crunching over shells when you walk down and back! If you are getting married on the beach, have the younger two blow bubbles.makeup tips

Stem to flowers on tomato plants turn yellow and the flower dies What to do?

why does the stem to the flowers on my tomato plants turn yellow and the flower dies?
Stem to flowers on tomato plants turn yellow and the flower dies What to do?
The plant is protecting itself, and it does so by dropping the flowers. Something is stressing the plant and it can be as simple as the night time temps are not high enough yet to set fruit or it may have a virus. It would take a ton of information to even begin to guess at the problem.
Reply:The plant probably has a fungus. A lot of tomato varieties are succeptible to virus and fungus diseases. I doubt if there's anything to be done about it. If you don't want to toss them and start over call the county extension service, take them a sample and they can confirm what you've got. Usually its not worth the time and expense of treating a diseased plant. But that's up to you.

Next year try a different variety than you planted this year. Or plant antique or heritage seeds.
Reply:Dont know I,m having same problem, so cant wait to get your answers!!!
Reply:It sounds like the branch has been broken, or you needed to put a collar of paper or cardboard down where the plant comes out of the ground, so the cut worms can't chew the stem.
Reply:Without looking at plants it sounds like you may be are giving them too much water. Tomatoes don't need to be watered every day if in pots. Too much water, if plants survive, will cause your fruit to burst open when ripe. Cut back just to keep soil moist, not soaking. Also if in ground, water late at nite. If ground is wet during hottest time of day, it will steam plants. Water when it has enough time to soak deap in ground before sun hits them. Hope this helps and good luck!
Reply:your tomato plant is dying Either to much water or not enough, Is it in a very sunny area it needs lots of sun
Reply:many things can cause the plant to start dying,

if you water in the morning, or noon, try watering in the evening, you can scorch the plant if it is too hot when you water

try plant food, or adding soil to the dirt there planted in, as they may not be getting enough nutrition

see if there are any bugs eating off the tomato plant, this can also kill itbooks authors

Flower bulbs?

hi i was wondering about flower bulbs

the shops and people who sell flower bulbs Where do they get them? how are they made? where do you find them?

Thanks
Flower bulbs?
The mother plant when in the dirt produces Baby bulbs.. which are then dug up and sold....The roots of the plant produce the bulbs.. If you plant say a tulip bulb in your garden in spring if you dig it up in fall you will find more little bulbs attached to the roots of the tulip you planted.... Hope that helps..
Reply:Billy Ray has nailed this question. Follow his advise...it is really good and well thought out.
Reply:come from holland, one bulb will make 2 in a season and they come from the ground
Reply:there not made they are grown and depending on what breed and speciman you want they come from all over the world and shipped in to us but most are home grown hope this clears up your little query
Reply:Sadly enough, they are about the only thing I can grow (the ones that dont have to be lifted in the fall of course)....I dont have a green thumb

http://www.brecks.com/

http://michiganbulb.com/Default.asp?
Reply:They get them from wholesale bulb farms, either in the United States or Holland. The growers have acres upon acres of colorful bulbs from which they harvest yearly to supply the demands of the gardener. Many bulbs need a "cooling" period to produce, so most of the farms are in locations that experience cold weather for a certain length of time during the winter months. The Northwest area of the U.S. has many such farms (Oregon %26amp; Washington). When in bloom, these bulb fields produce an array of beautiful colors and are very spectacular indeed! Here is a link with pics of one such farm located in Washington state. Holland is one of the largest exporters of bulbs in the entire world. The U.S. is close behind.. Here are the links....

Flower in hair on wedding day?

This is a little poll... if you wore a flower for your wedding, was it real or silk?

Would silk look cheap? Know any online stores that sell nice flower clips?

Thanks!
Flower in hair on wedding day?
I know many people on here think silk flowers look cheap. I asked about silk flowers once and I got about 40 answers all but about 6 said silk flowers are tacky. A great deal of our budget is going to floral decoration because of our wedding theme. We both have bad allergies and are getting silk. Although having our eyes red and swollen would make for some interesting photos LOL but no..

I say silk. Due to my allergies and what someone else saying about it dying and withering before the ceremony.

I'm searching for a site for you now.

The clips on this site are really pretty:

My friend wore a flower in her hair for her wedding and she looked beautiful. Her's was real.
Reply:For your hair, use silk. You don't want to have to worry about damaging it every time you or someone else touches your hair.
Reply:I'm wearing a single, realistic silk flower. It doesn't look cheap.

Go to Claire's. They have really good ones.
Reply:I'm thinking about wearing flowers but i'm gonna do silk only because a real one might die by the time we get to the reception. But I know a real flower would look alot nicer.skin disease

A hearty flower to plant.?

I live in Ohio. I am wanting to plant some flowers this year with my 6 year old daughter. I need something that is hearty. I've had a lot of luck with begonias. I start in May and they last til the first frost. I trim them back once and while so they stay nice. They don't need much care--just watering.

Reply:You will find that hospitals will not allow flowers (fresh) because of other patients on the ward. You can take flowers but they will put them in a room with other flowers what have been sent.

UPDATE: looking at your new photo, I'm going to say Aechmea (Aechmea fasciata or a hybrid probably) instead of Puya. Both Aechmea and Puya are bromeliads. You're much more likely to find Aechmea in this country, though, and you can easily grow it in a pot, unlike many Puyas.

It's not a dahlia--that's a spike with multiple buds. Dahlias are individual flowers. If you look at the buds you can also see that it has 3 petals. This would make it a monocot. Most garden flowers, including dahlias are dicots. Lilies and orchids are examples of monocots.

My guess is that it's a bromeliad, specifically a Puya. Bromeliads are from the pineapple family, and there are more than 100 species of Puya, so if it is a Puya it may be hard to track down the particular species.

Among the things that make me think it's a Puya are the vivid and contrasting colors on the flower spike. A lot of Puya flowers have colors that you don't normally find (see the first photo below)--there are very few blue orchids for example. On Puyas a number of flowers are arranged on a large spike. Like the mystery flower, Puyas have only 3 petals.

The flowers and flower spikes look so different between different species, but here are two examples. I think it looks sort of like the second one (Puya venusta):

Flower Number, color and meaning...?

I want to send flowers to this girl who I like, for New Year. I'm pretty sure she likes me too...she's given me hints that the feeling is mutual.

I'm having problems with the bouquet that I want to send.

I want to send 6 light pink roses.

light pink stands for admiration and 6 means "I like you" (supposedly)

Now, I can't find any shops that has light pink roses, so I'm settling for pink roses, and upon researching even more, six roses also means that the sender "needs to be loved/cherished" I don't want to look desperate so I'm having second thoughts about sending six roses...

Now I'm leaning towards sending a dozen pink roses...

A dozen meaning "be my steady"

Do you think it would be too much for New Years?

I don't want it to be too forward...We're just sort of dating,,,so she's not my girlfriend yet, or at least I haven't asked her yet.

By the way, sending different type of flower (other than roses) is out of the question...
Flower Number, color and meaning...?
Well does she know what these flower colors and numbers mean? If not, then send six. She might feel overwhelmed with 12 since you're not officially together yet.

Can someone name this flower?

We have flowers growing along the side of our house (in Massachusetts). A bright but deep pink color with small yellow polleny centers, they are very fragrant. They have been in bloom a few weeks and continue to bloom. There are many bunches of the flowers on the stem and each blossom is about the size of a quarter (think lilac bunching, but larger flowers). The leaves on the stem are long and arrow shaped - kind of like a canoe shape, I guess. We are moving and want to buy some to plant at the new house. Can someone help identify this flower?

Sounds like Sweet William Dianthus Barbatus to me. Here's some info and photos ... and it is blooming right now in Southern NH too. It's a biennial, blooming usually in the second summer.

Another idea is various other Dianthus, like cheddar pinks. Or tall stocks, which have bunches of flowers that are incredibly scented.

Flower shops....?

i need to know how early do flower shops usually open??

i need to buy some flowers for a special someone....and dont know how early they open...by the way i live in san jose california in the blossom hill area.
Flower shops....?
That is so sweet. I think most shops open a different times. Anyway find the one you want to go, look up the number, and call because the message machine will tell you the hours. I they don't open early enough, most supermarkets sell flowers and most are open 24 hours.

Flower Hair Accessories......?

Hey everyone, I am starting to think about Prom coming in a few months and I wanted to know if anyone had any idea where I can get som eflower thingy for my hair..? Everywhere I look it's just one flower on a pony-tail holder or barrett-I'm talking like a couple of them. I went to the Maggie Sottero dress website and all of their models have the cutest bunch of flowers on one side of their bun--anyone have any ideas?? Thanks a ton!
Flower Hair Accessories......?
I just saw some cute ones today at WalMart, out of all places! They only had a few that were attached to a hair pin (set of 2). But something else to think about is picking out your favorite flower, for instance, and buying it from a florist and having your salon fix your hair up with the real flower. A friend of mine did it at prom a few years back and it was beautiful! Nothing like the real thing!

I also like the idea above about going to a craft store and picking one out and glueing it to a clip. What a good (and inexpensive) idea!
Reply:Clarie's, icing, or Sally's Beauty Supply
Reply:You can try www.PromDressShop.com. They seem to have everything else for prom.
Reply:I bought some flowers at TheDivaPinup.com and I really loved everything I got! They are made really well and super pretty. They have so many different kinds that you'll totally find one to match your prom dress.
Reply:If you can't find anything to satisfy yoru taste, then you shoudl make yoru own. Faux Flowers can be found at Michaels or pretty much any art stores. Then buy a clip or a simple hair assecory wihtout any particluar design and there you go. If it is a barrett or a bobby pin type of clip or any type of clips then all you really need is glue or a glue gun. If it is a scrunchie then sew them on (be careful!). Really good flowers to use are lilies, roses, tulips, daises, carnations, and pretty mcuh anything. Use yoru imagination! =]
Reply:you can just get a bobby pin or any other hair clip that would work and go to an art shop that sells fake flowers and take out the petals and clip it on to your hair. its cheaper too.
Reply:maybe like the day of yor prom or the day before you could pick or but real flowers and arrage then put it in your bun and then use a bobbly pin to secure it or you can google it.flower

Make a flower out of a cigarette?

There's a similar post to this about Alba making a flower from a cigarette in the movie Awake or Awaken, but it wasn't really answered. I know how to make it to a certain point but I'm very confused on how to actually make the "pedals" of the flower.

To make it clear, the stem is made by first rubbing out all the tobacco and twisting/twirling the paper, simple enough. Second, peel off 3/4 of the filter paper so that the actual filter is exposed.

This is where I'm stuck. The strands of the filter need to be very divided and thin so the flower comes out nicely. When I tried it, i basically tried to just divide the filters but it just came out chunky and uneven.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, has seen the movie, or successfully attempted this, please help me with the last part as I'm making this as a gift for someone significant.
Make a flower out of a cigarette?
once you pull the paper off of the filter...rub the filter in between your fingers and it will begin to unfold...take your time in pulling it apart....and that should do it...acting resources

Flower that need little care?

I want to plant a few flower near my mailbox but dont want to have to spend a lot of time caring for them, what are some flowers that will live with rain and sunlight provided by mother nature. I am in southeast Georgia, just to give an idea of the climate. thanks!!!
Flower that need little care?
try crocus, they even bloom while it snows!! and come in several different colors
Reply:Moss Rose like full sun and are drought tolerant.

Their real name is Portulaca.

You don't have to deadhead them and they bloom all summer. They come in all colors--I really love them!
Reply:For perennials, try black eyed Susans or Guara. Vinca Major will work well as a vine. Dietes would be great as a strap leaf. Marigolds thrive on benevolent neglect. There are dozens and dozens that will grow where you are.performing arts

Flower Help?

i just bought flowers for my mom for mothers day and their already starting to wilt...their all crunchy and like going down, but i ad just bought them :( and i put the plant food and water in it and i been taking care of it good, but i wanted them to look pretty-er so i put some glitter on them, just sprinkled it on and some-little bits got into the water-do u think thats why?it was just glitter. and how can i make them not wilt and be all fresh again-any flower tips?//

thanks,
Flower Help?
Take them out of the water, and re-cut the stems (at an angle) under running water. Also, remove leaves that will be under water in the arrangement, but do not remove thorns from roses as it tends to shorten their life. Put them back in a clean vase of fresh water, and add an aspirin and a penny. Copper is a fungicide and acts to preserve the water from too many yeasts and fungi. Aspirin is an acid and helps to kill bacteria overgrowth. Re-cut the stems and replace the water every 2 days.fitness

I touched a yellow flower. Spines on stem touched finger. My finger hurts now. Is the flower poisonous?

I was in my yard picking flowers when I tried to pick a yellow one with soft spines on its stem. The spines kind of jumped to the two fingers I touched the flower with, and left yellow coloring/liquid behind (it was washed off easily). Now my finger is sore and a tiny bit puffy. Is the flower poisonous, and should I seek medical help?
I touched a yellow flower. Spines on stem touched finger. My finger hurts now. Is the flower poisonous?
It sounds like irritation cos some yellow plants have a milky sap which is poisenous. if the irritation moves beyond your first finger joint or becomes hot and swollen seek medical help, otherwise it is just an irritant reaction.
Reply:Yes, what you described is called the Yellow Poison Dagger Flower. It has been known to paralyze people. Your finger will start hurting, then your hand, then your whole arm. The poison in your body right now is working its way to your spinal cord. If you get to the hospital now you will be OK, if you go to sleep, whenever you wake up you may be paralyzed.
Reply:I doubt it, anything with thorns is likely to cause a bit of a reaction. Basically, the spines have aggrevated your nerves and your bodies response is to surround the area with fluid, causing a swelling. Try putting some magnesium sulphate paste on a clean dressing if there are still spines in your finger. It will draw them out painlessly, as well as any juices that the plant may have put in. If it doesn't ease within a few days, see your GP.

Two pink-flowering plants are crossed. The offspring flower as follows: 25% red, 25% white, 50% pink.?

What pattern of inheritance does flower color in these flowers follow?

is it...

-dominance

-recessiveness

-multiple alleles

-polygenic traits

-incomplete dominance
Two pink-flowering plants are crossed. The offspring flower as follows: 25% red, 25% white, 50% pink.?
R = Red

r = White

Rr x Rr

All offspring possible: RR, Rr, Rr, rr

RR = Red and 25% = 1 out of 4

Rr = Pink and 50% = 2 out of 4

rr = White and 25% = 1 out of 4

Incomplete Dominance
Reply:Jay2 this is obviously a case of INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE. Since neither the red nor the white is dominant over the other this results in the mixing of genotype giving pink phenotype. This is usually the case for the second generation between a cross of a red and a white-flowered plant. The actual specimen used to know this inheritance was the flowers of Snapdragons (Antirrhinum majus).

Hope this helps...
Reply:reccesive red, reccesive white.

Is it too wierd to have a FLOWER BOY instead of a FLOWER girl?

I know it sounds WIERD and nothing is for sure BUT, The flower girl for my sister's wedding is not going to be able to attend the wedding and believe or not, we don't know ANY OTHER GIRLS! =( So now we are out of a FLOWER girl, We have 2 boys available, One will be the ring bearer and the other one i guess can hold the tail to her dress.. BUT is it too WIERD if one of the boys is THE FLOWER BOY? I mean is there something else that he can throw instead of PETALS? At this point, we might not even have a FLOWER girl so is it WRONG to not have a FLOWER girl at all?? Please give us some advice.. NO DUMB answers please. This wedding is in 2 weeks!
Is it too wierd to have a FLOWER BOY instead of a FLOWER girl?
Children are children........boy or girl can be a flower or ring child..........Some people use their pets. It is Sisters Day...she can have any one do anything.

The other little boy will be so excited that he is asked to be part of the wedding..............He can toss the petals...just think who gives females flowers.......MALES.....find a female tween or teen to hold the dress.......The more children involved.....the better they will enjoy the wedding.....and the guests will enjoy watching the children too......Teens also enjoy helping the elderly to their seats at the wedding.......or any occasion.....

Children love to be involved.........they like that extra special attention.......When doing a pre-practice with them first without the adults.......then take them to a special after practice favorite burger or pizza place and for ice cream.........they will be great additions to the wedding.

Enjoy the wedding and the children involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:whoa, calm down. first of all, why would it be wierd to have a flower boy? oh no, you're not going to be EXACTLY like everyone elses wedding! the horror! that also answers your other question: yes, it's ok to not have a flower girl, not everyone has one. and lastly, if you do have a flower boy, WHY would you need to change what he's going to be carrying? unless you're teaching the little boys in your family that they should be a macho tough guy stereotype and carrying flowers is forbidden because someone might think they're GAY! oh no!
Reply:A wedding certainly does not NEED to have a flower girl or ring bearer at all. (I am not close to any little kids at the moment, so we're foregoing them entirely.)

If you really want someone scattering flower petals, however, I see nothing wrong with having a flower boy - just so long as you aren't planning on cross-dressing him to look like a girl (believe it or not, there was a woman on here last month planning to do that...!).

Whichever choice you make will be fine. Have a great wedding! =)
Reply:As long as you don't put him in a dress and try and pass him off as a girl, I don't see any problem with it. And yes, people have done that...

But me, personally, I would skip it. I've been to a lot of wedding were the flower girl didn't even throw any petals down, she just ran straight down the aisle. I've seen it skipped before, it's fine. If your sister wants petals then she can have a bridesmaid or someone scatter the petals. Or have them already scattered before the ceremony begins...
Reply:Right you cant call him a flower boy or birdesmaid, thats just not fair on the poor boy haha.

However at my aunties wedding i was a bridesmaid holding the trail of her gown along with two bos in lovely tux's...

PAIGEBOYS

Thats what they are called, and it is more traditional to have a bridesmaid and a paigeboy than a flowergirl anyways, so go for having a paigeboy and just dont make him chuck anything, unless he is younger, and then he can chuck confetti :D

xxxx
Reply:If the child is ok with it...if his parents are ok with it

Then I'd say it's fine!

If he can choose what type of flowers (or maybe NOT flowers, but something else to brighten the pathway for the bride!).

I would say roses for a boy to carry, but maybe that is the "standard" flower to begin with...

Just don't worry about it, really. Just another one of those things that make that particular wedding as "memorable"!

%26lt;'(((%26gt;%26lt;
Reply:i say don't do it to the kid. and if you do definitely don't call him "flower boy." or at least ask him if he wants to. i was made to wear this embarasing dress and be flower girl when i was like 11 and i hated it. my parents made me for some cousin or something. but i was too old for the dress and the job and i hated it. so if he wants to, then okay. but ask him first.
Reply:Not at all.

Its your wedding. If the boy will be glum and does not want to do it, don't. My niece did that and it ruined the parts of the video she was in.

Everyone in the ceremony needs to be excited to be participating. If not leave them out. Make a roll for everyone who will be excited to make it a beautiful wedding.
Reply:it is your sisters wedding. there are no rules set that have to have weddings a certain way, so does it matter what other peoples opinions are?! not at all, this is your sisters special day, so she should have it in a wonderful way, that in 50 years, she can look back and say, "my wedding was just as i wanted it, and id have it no ther way."

tell her this so she wont have regrets later
Reply:It would probably be better to NOT have a "flower girl" especially if its a boy... carrying the train of her dress idea sounds cute.. I would go with that for the one boy and a ring bearer with the other boy..

Anything else (boy being a flower person.. :S) completely WEIRD and really not cute at all.. sorta lame.. sorry but just my opinion
Reply:I dont think it would be wierd, although an alternative to the flowers would be a "white carpet". My cousin had two little boys roll out this white, lacy fabric just before she came down the isle. it was really pretty. each of the boys grabbed ahold to one end walked side by side pulling out the fabric (it is rolled up).
Reply:Don't get mad at this but...

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't do that to they poor little boy what did he do to you LOL! That will affect his life forever LOL! Just don't have anyone be a flower person. I am having a ring boy and no flower girl because I dont know any little girls.
Reply:You can have a flower boy if you want. Or two ring bearers (one ring/pillow each). Or they can just walk down the aisle, holding nothing, and looking cute. That's their only real purpose, anyway .

And it's "weird." Not "wierd."
Reply:It's a wedding and they are meant to be fun:) And nothing is weird do what you like, I think it's a sweet thing IF the boy agrees to it, most youngsters don't care. It's different but it's okay either way.

I say go for it!
Reply:you can have anything you want. if you feel comfortable enough to have a boy go down the aisle with flowers, then so be it. its your wedding. i think its unique. congratulations.
Reply:That is up to your sister. If she wants to have a boy do it, I wouldn't think twice about it. He will look adorable. I can't think of anything else he could throw. It's not wrong to not have flower "person" either.
Reply:lol you know what he could to, this is cute, he could throw petals and hands roses to some of the women he walks by, so its cute and not to feminen.
Reply:I would never do that to a little boy....imagine his embarassment years down the road when the wedding pix are pulled out.....you don't need a flower girl anyway, the ring boy is enough.
Reply:As long as the boy doesn't mind, then I think it would be a great idea for the 2 boys to be in the wedding. Go for it!
Reply:Equality for the sexes! This is going to be an equal opportunity wedding. It will be sweet and memorable for its uniqueness.
Reply:If the boy is young enough it's actually kind of cute!

You could have him throw rice...but flower petals are much cuter!

I think it's ok for a little boy to do it.
Reply:ummmm, i would say that it would be fine. if you dont want them throwing flowers, try rice, thats what they do at Jewish weddings and sometimes just as as replacement of flowers. good luck!
Reply:I think it would be very nice to have a flower boy... either way having kids in the wedding turns out great. (he might be a little embarrassed though if you call it flower boy.. so maybe make up another name for him)
Reply:this is 2008 and I think everything goes now. Plus how can your guest be against a child doing you the honors. As long as you dont care than thats all that matters I also would stick to the flower petals
Reply:Perhaps he could hand out long stem roses to the ladies on the aisle. A little more "manly" than dropping petals along the path.
Reply:I second its your wedding so do whatever you feel its your day.

Congratulations BTW.
Reply:that might not be a good idea, considering how that little boy's friends will never let him live it down... lol

I suggest a flower *maiden* such as a teen aged cousin =)

congrats!!
Reply:No, of couse not! Flower boys are just as good, and a flower boy would be so cute too!
Reply:Just don't do it. Skip having a flower girl and just go with the ring bearer.
Reply:yes, the universe will implode
Reply:In San Francisco it would be normal.puppy teeth

im still debating on whether i want all 3 of my bridesmaids to wear an ivory sash...not sure..any opinions on this?

and what what do you think about the flowers?? thankyou!!
Flower choices..what do ya say?
Gerber Daisies are a beautiful choice when wanting to add a fun splash of color. My advice, give each girl a different shade of pink. Light Pink, Medium Pink, and Hot Pink. Then have your bouquet showcase a mix of all three colors! If you think you still want some white, add white roses to your bouquet. The difference in bloom size will add dimension and texture.

I say go for the sash for the Bridesmaids, just make it white. Against the black the ivory might appear dingy in photos.

Congratulations and Best Wishes!

ADDED:

Loving the idea of the pink sash!

If you go with the pink sash, the bridesmaids can have the mixed pinks with white. Then choose the hot pink (like your picture) for you!

Even when the brides dress is ivory, I suggest choosing a nice crisp white for everything else Especially ivory tablecloths, the pictures always come out looking dingy. The exception to this rule are the paper products. These in ivory are very elegant (ie: menu cards, programs)
Reply:It appears from the pictures that the pink flowers are two different shades. Not certain I would go with two different shades. I would probably stick with one shade of pink as an accent especially of the shades clash. I did flowers for an October wedding last year and she used white roses and deep red lillies. But it is your wedding and your choices to make your day special. I like the idea of pink with the black. Depending on the style of the dress you may want to forego the sash, just give them more ivory daisies and less pink daisies in their bouquets and you possibly have more pink and less ivory in yours to offset the colors. Just a thought. Good Luck!
Reply:Those daises are a beautiful choice!

Personally, I like one color for a clean, sleek look. So I would do the pink as you have for the bridesmaids, and white for myself the bride. But if you like the combos, go for it! Its not bad at all, its just not my taste.

Black bridesmaids dresses with ivory sash-- yes!
Reply:i think the ivory sash would be better than a pink sash, you don't want too much pink so close to one another ya know. the flowers look great. i would pick some funky garnish or sticks to go with the flowers you picked.

Reply:check out calla lillies too, they are really pretty, and white. your flowers look too much like the bridesmaids - i'd do something different..

English: nickname from Middle English flo(u)r ‘flower’, ‘blossom’ (Old French flur, from Latin flos, genitive floris). This was a conventional term of endearment in medieval romantic poetry, and as early as the 13th century it is also regularly found as a female personal name.

English: metonymic occupational name for a miller or flour merchant, or perhaps a nickname for a pasty-faced person, from Middle English flo(u)r ‘flour’. This is in origin the same word as in 1, with the transferred sense ‘flower, pick of the meal’. Although the two words are now felt to be accidental homophones, they were not distinguished in spelling before the 18th century.

English: occupational name for an arrowsmith, from an agent derivative of Middle English flo ‘arrow’ (Old English fla).

Welsh: Anglicized form of the Welsh personal name Llywarch, of unexplained origin.

Translation of French Lafleur.

Reply:Surname: Flower

This most interesting surname has several possible origins. Firstly, it may have been a nickname from the Old French "flur", Middle English "flo(u)r", flower, which was a conventional term of endearment in medieval romantic poetry, and as early as the 14th Century it is regularly found as female given name. However, the name may also have been a metonymic occupational name for a miller or flour merchant, derived from the iddle English "flo(u)r", flour, which has the same origin as above, with the transferred sense "flower, pick of the meal". Finally, the surname may be an occupational name for an arrowsmith, from the Middle English "floer", a derivative of "flo", Olde English pre 7th Century "fla", arrow, an arrowsmith. The name is most popular in Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire (Bristol). The surname itself first appears in the early 13th Century (see below), while William Floere and John le Floer were mentioned in the Hundred Rolls of Devonshire in 1275; and Edmund Flour appears in the Feet of Fines of Essex in 1313. Thomas Flower, aged 32 yrs., was an early emigrant to the plantations of "Virginea", travelling aboard the "Abraham" in 1635. A Coat of Arms granted to a Flower family, descended from William Flower, High Sheriff of Rutland in 1387, depicts an ermine cinquefoil on an ermines shield. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of William Flur, which was dated 1203, in the "Pipe Rolls of Yorkshire", during the reign of King John, known as "Lackland", 1199 - 1216.

A complete flower is always a perfect flower?
a. TRUE

"Complete" means that it has all four major parts: petals, sepals, pistil %26amp;stamen ; therefore it has to be "perfect", which means that it has a pistil %26amp; stamens.

Flower in the Crannied Wall?

Flower in the crannied wall,

I pluck you out of the crannies,

I hold you here, root and all, in my hand,

Little flower -- but if I could understand

What you are, root and all, and all in all,

I should know what God and man is.

*This poem is very hard to understand...can you please help me INTERPRET the meaning of this poem LINE BY LINE?

It really fustrates me that I can't understand it...please don't tell me everyone has a different meaning...I KNOW there must be a general meaning...
Flower in the Crannied Wall?
Just some random thoughts.

Re-reading it you get a very good rhythm

The poet has seen a flower struggling to survive in a crack

He/ she plucks it out of curiosity

It is a miracle of life but curiosity has killed it

The writer had the power of life and death for the flower

What is life ........where does the person / flower " go " when dead

If we could understand that relationship then we might understand something about God

Hope that helps you think about the poem .....Who is it by ?books authors

Flower plant that just needs water no dirt?

so i want to plant a flower in this glass vase with noting but clear rocks on the bottom. Is there any flower that can live without dirt just water?
Flower plant that just needs water no dirt?
Bamboo or some types of ivy will do well in water.
Reply:Peace Lily. These guys survive quit nicely in only water. There was a fad a few years ago where people would put a beta fish in a clear vase with a peace lily sticking out the top. I know this because I had two of the and I had them for years. You don't need the fish, the lily will still work.

Lucky bamboo (Dracenia) will also survive in only water.

I would imagine that any bog plant would work as well. Some of these are what you would find in aquariums.

Flower Child?

Whenever i walk into class my one teacher, says here comes the flower child, or here is the flower child. i didnt know if i should of been offended or not so i didnt say anything, what did he mean?
Flower Child?
Do you dress like a tree hugging hippie? ;)
Reply:A flower child does not only mean, hippie or the 1960's, it also means that you are mellow, easygoing and lazy when you decide to be. Those were some of the concepts and teaching of the 60's youth generation. To really know for sure why this one teacher calls you flower child, then ASK %26gt;
Reply:Do you dress like a hippie from the 60s?
Reply:* hippie: someone who rejects the established culture; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle

wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* Flower child originated as a synonym for hippie, for their custom of wearing flowers to symbolize peace and love. It later came to mean Generation X children who have been brought up by hippie parents, whether the child was a hippie or not. Flower children often have unusual names such as "Rainbow" and "Moon Unit". ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_child
Reply:Well back in the 60's a flower child was a a person who stood on a corner selling flowers back in the days of hippies.
Reply:He probably isn't trying to be insulting. I don't know. He's referring to your mannerisms, way of dress, attitude, etc. You must remind him of a "floewer child" from the 60's. Not a terrible thing, they were a laid back, peaceful, nature-loving group of hippies. Like I said, not too insulting.
Reply:What could it hurt , ask the teacher what he means by that .
Reply:I think you reminded him of the flower children of the 60's. They were peaceful, worried about the enviroment, hated wars, etc....

If I were you, I'd take it as a compliment.
Reply:Hippies in the '60s where called Flower Child, or, Flower Children. We "did our own thing." We dropped out of society and wore flowers in our hair and wild clothes.

It is rude and unprofessional for a teacher to call you anything other than your name.

Tell your parents, what the teacher said. Your parents should talk to the school principal. The teacher is out of line and should be disciplined.

Teachers these days are out of control.
Reply:I've been called that before too. I just assume its a compliment.
Reply:Hey fellow flower child don't be offended its a compliment... peace and love to you and yours...make up

Which Japanese flower should i send that means get well soon?

My husband's grandma is having knee surgery at the end of this month. She is japanese and I was told every flower has a meaning in japan. So which flower should we send to grandma that means "get well soon" or something of that nature? What is the appropriate flower and how certain are you of your answer?

thanks so much,

serious answers only please.
Which Japanese flower should i send that means get well soon?
A potted plant is not a good idea unless you REALLY know the person you're giving it to, and, you might freak out some of the other people who see it. Patients want to get better and get out of the hospital as soon as possible. A potted plant has roots, so symbolically, it's a sign they might be in the hospital long enough to take root themselves!

When it comes to flowers, Hydrangeas and Cyclamens should be avoided, where as Chrysanthemums (white and yellow) are customarily used at funerals -- definitely NOT a get-well flower! When it comes to aroma, you might also try to avoid giving flowers with a strong aroma so as not to offend other patients in the hospital. You know how polite the Japanese people are!

Personally, if I had to give flowers to a sick friend in Japan, I would pick cut flowers that were brightly colored and not in the "never give these to the living" list. Being that the person in question is family, Azaleas might be a nice choice because they symbolize family devotion.

If you're absolutely stuck and not sure what kind of flowers to give, contact a local florist in Japan (there are tons of them like this: http://www.japanfloristshop.com/). They might recommend a seasonal mix of flowers (harmless), or, offer some kind of fruit or gift basket (even more harmless).

Lastly, in the U.S., we talk about giving and/or getting a dozen roses or some other flower. In Japan, the numbers four and nine represent "death" and "suffering" respectively, and are bad quantities to give or get whether it's flowers, candy, tea sets, light bulbs, fish sticks, or what have you, so avoid those quantities at all costs.
Reply:dont use japaneses flower... use indian flower and cook it with water then give her so she will get better
Reply:cherry blossom
Reply:Yellow crysanthemums.
Reply:check this out carefully because I know flowers at funerals are bad because it's a symbol of dying
Reply:there is no such flower that means get well soon. this is imaginary in nature and aside it is ;a sperstitious belief. the kind of flower to be send has nothing to say or do or has no connection with the sick ; person. it will only make him or her glad that you sent him or her gift like flowerjaside from the floiwer you are intending to send, send money for her supposed experience when she will ;visit a doctor or will go to medication
Reply:Hibiscus, I have lived in Japan
Reply:Send an Orchid.
Reply:Make sure whatever you send isn't red and/or white. These colors are the symbol of death.Soles

Flower advice?

My gf birthday is coming up and I'm not sure if I should get her flower or not. We kind of agreed not to over spend on each other birthdays. On mine she took me out to a casual restourant, gave me a bday card, and a case of beer. I havent decided what to quite get her yet but I want to get her flowers. Should I go with like a dozen red roses? Give me some suggestions.
