Dipping flower stems in wax?

I was thinking of putting the flower I choose for my wedding in the top of the wedding cake, and instead of putting the stem in, I was thinking of dipping the stems in wax and putting them in the cake, so that no flower "juice" or anything can get into the cake. Would that work good, and how long would the flowers last like that? Would I need to put them in the cake just before the wedding for them to look there best, and so they're not wilted by cake time?
Dipping flower stems in wax?
I would think before the presentation, to do it last min. I am not sure how the warm/hot wax would react to the flower. I say do a test run, before the big day, so you can get a sense of how it will go.genealogy mormon

Every flower that I planted died!?

I don't know what to do. No flowers will grow in my flower beds anywhere. I live in louisville kentucky. My dirt? My neighbors have the same problem on both sides of me. The first year I moved here I spent 300 on flowers and as soon as I put them in the ground they didn't last long at all. I really need help!
Every flower that I planted died!?
Agree with Dragon. Amend your soil. Add manure (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart sell cow manure or since you're in KY get well composted horse manure from horse farms, usually cheap), leaf mould, straw...clay is non porous and is smothering your flowers. Water with MiracleGro, fish emulsion, root stimulator (Fertilome makes a great stim.)

Contact my avatar for plant cuttings to root. I'd be happy to send you some of my jungle.
Reply:You need to check what type of soil you have and then you can decide which plants will grow. The common tests can be done quite easily usually pH and salt levels all which select for what plants will grow. also take into account the amount of sunlight and how exposed to the elements the patch of ground is. Check in your local garden center and they will be abl to help you with soil testing. There are lovely plants that ill grow in all types of soil (think about the earth and the variety of climates and soils in it) so dont worry something will grow.
Reply:I recommend getting some good potting/top soil and put where you want a flower bed. Your flowers will take off in the good soil.

Need flower rec for outdoor party?

My family is having an outdoor party this Sat. I agreed to do the flowers. I am going to put them in floral foam and then inside small terra cotta pots. I don't want them to wilt before the party is over. Party will be 12 noon - 5pm.

Question is -- what is the best flower for the sun. I am going to the San Francisco Flower Mart, so I will have lots of choices.
Need flower rec for outdoor party?
Carnations hold up well.

Stock is good. They look sort of like Snapdragons. Smell great!

When you get your foam, be sure to buy Oasis foam. Oasis foam holds water. Sahara foam is for dried or artificial flowers. Those might be brand names, but do check to make sure the foam you're buying holds water.
Reply:Gerber daisies are pretty durable and come in lots of bright colors.

Reply:Tell the clerk at the flower shop what you just told us. They always know what to send and when.
Reply:hen giving cut roses as Valentine gifts, we adhere to a time-honored formula that takes into account rose color meanings. The formula matches a rose's color to its intended meaning as a gift. Valentine's Day is primarily a lovers' holiday, and red roses are traditionally for lovers. "Valentine roses" and "red roses" go hand in hand, even though other colors have their place on the holiday. Our close family members may also be treated to red roses for Valentine's Day, but we avoid giving roses of this color to friends on Valentine's Day -- that would simply convey the wrong meaning. The following are the meanings traditionally attached to the most popular roses, according to colors; use this list as a guide when selecting Valentine roses:

Red roses mean romantic love; they're the "Valentine roses," par excellence.

Purple, coral and orange challenge red as the color for Valentine roses.

The rose color meanings for these 3 are as follows:

The specific purpose of purple roses is to signify that the giver has fallen in love with the recipient at first sight.

Meanwhile, coral and orange roses signal desire.

The meaning of yellow roses is joy and friendship.

We express our gratitude and appreciation with pink roses....

While feelings of admiration and sympathy find words with roses that are light pink in color.

Peach is more ambiguous, as it can signify either sympathy or gratitude.

Their purity naturally enough lends to white roses the meaning of reverence and humility.

I recommend http://www.2flowers.com/ to send her beauty red roses.
Reply:Roses are more for the "I love you" deal....

How about soemthing pink....I think that color means "I like you alot."fitness

What kind of flower is this?

I don't have a digital camera, so I can't take a picture, but it is easy to describe. I live in Indiana - zone 5, and this flower looks like a big weed-bush, about 4' wide and 4' tall. We were going to cut it down at first, but then it started blooming large 1" yellow flowers only at NIGHT. During the day, the flowers shrivel back up and are done, and new flowers bloom the following evening, around dusk. Any ideas?

Sounds like a type of evening primrose.
Reply:Four O'Clocks only bloom in the evening and at night. Trumpet shaped flower, leaves are spatulate. Here is an image:

Wedding flower ideas?

My wedding is in July and my colors are blue and white with red as an accent color. I need opinions on flowers. I thought about doing white and blue roses with some red thrown in or just red accents like ribbons or something. But roses can get pricey and I would like to know some other options I have. Does anyone know of a website I can go to to look at pictures of different kinds of flowers? Any other flower ideas? Please let me know your opinions!
Wedding flower ideas?
Go to any of the major florist websites like 1-800 flowers or FTD. They always have great ideas.

As for cost, one way to get what you like and keep the cost down is to see if a nearby college has a floral arranging class, or something along those lines. sometimes a college has a degree in floral shop management and they have students do flowers for major events.
Reply:You're not going to find blue roses.

There are some roses that are sort of a very weird looking light purple that they call blue, but I would really call them blue myself - they are more of a lavender.

Try Dave's Garden or Garden Web for more flower pictures.

Are you looking to avoid a professional florist?

If not, go talk to one now and they will give you ideas.
Reply:These websites will show you all the flowers, including wild ones and which season they are prevalent in. If you don't want to do full bouquets, you can have the bridesmaids carry brandy snifters with one perfect floating flower and ribbon streamers on the stem of the snifter in the appropriate colors. Boutonnieres only take a couple of flowers and table decorations can also utilize single floating flowers.

Cross a true-breeding blue flower with a true-breeding yellow flower?

Suppose you cross a true-breeding blue flower with a true-breeding yellow flower. In the next generation, all of the flowers are blue. What does this outcome tell you about the allele for blue flowers?

A.

The blue allele is sex-linked.

B.

The blue allele is recessive to the yellow allele.

C.

The blue allele is dominant to the yellow allele.

D.

The blue allele shows incomplete dominance.
Cross a true-breeding blue flower with a true-breeding yellow flower?
Call the allele for blue flowers B and the one for yellow flowers Y.

A true-breeding specimen must be homozygous, so the blue flowers must have the genotype BB and the yellow ones must be YY. (If a flower were BY, it could pass either color to its offspring, so some of the offspring wouldn't be the same color, so it wouldn't be true-breeding.)

Now when you cross a flower with genotype BB with one with genotype YY, all the offspring will be BY.

If a BY flower appears blue, then the blue allele must be dominant.

Therefore C is the correct answer.
Reply:enough of the punnet square crap, it will be green!!!
Reply:I would have to believe that the blue allele is dominant to the yellow allele, however, upon subsequent generations, you may find yellow flowers or color striated flowers thrown in. Just my opinion. I'm not a botanist or geneticist...not even close.

They are white, pink or purple. They flower in clusters. The flowers have 6 petals. The diameter of the flower is about 1.25"

sounds like hyacinth bulbs. Mine are blooming now along with the daffodils. The colors you described are right in line with the description of hyacinths as are the fact that they flower in clusters have six petals and are about 1-1 1/2 inches large.

A flower on your left or right ear... Which means your single, and which means your taken?

.This has been bothering me for quite a while. Does the flower on the left side of your ear mean your single, and the flower on the right ear mean your taken. Or is it the other way around, with the flower on your right side as taken, and left side as single? I need to know this, because in my school, during homecoming week, one of the days is "Hawaiian Day". And yes, I have been to Hawaii a couple of times, I even went HORSEBACK RIDING there! But I always love to add a little "ZING" to my costume. So this INFO would really HELP...

A flower on your left or right ear... Which means your single, and which means your taken?
A flower on your right ear means you're single while the flower on your left means you're taken.

A good way to remember this is that a flower on your left is the same as a ring on your left hand (as if you're married).

Good luck and have a great "Hawaii day" at school.......

What should my flower girls carry???

Im having a formal Catholic church wedding. We decided to have our 3 precious 2nd cousins (all about 9 years old) participate as flower girls in the wedding however, the church does not allow us to sprinkle rose petals, or anything else inside OR outside the church.

I was considering having the flower girls carry a single flower down the isle or maybe a basket filled with silk flowers that coordinate with the bridesmaids.

Any suggestions or others ideas... where I can find something to use for these 3 cute girls.
What should my flower girls carry???
my sister had the same problem at her wedding and so she had the flower girls blow bubbles instead it was very cute, no mess and original :D
Reply:Yes, flowerballs are the rage now a days!!

Cute, Cute, Cute!
Reply:Baskets with rose petals that the sprinkle as they walk (skip) down the aisle
Reply:My flower girl is holding the hand of my ring bearer so i dont think i'm gonna have her carry anything as well.

The bubbles idea is cute but you try walking and blowing bubbles, trying to look where you're going, its not gonna work!

Pomanders are a great idea but single flowers are just as nice and a whole lot cheaper! My bridesmaids are carrying single large calla lilies. Like this link but white. £7.50 each

http://picasaweb.google.com/lubahnweddin...

Another idea is good luck charms... Each could carry a different one... horse shoe, black cat, rolling pin etc

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Real-Good-Luck-Han...

If you dont have a ring bearer one could do this for you. My ring bearer is my 3 yr old step son (to be lol) and he's carrying the rings in a tatty teddy bear (the bears holding a heart shaped jewelery box)

Personally i'd go with a pomander...

Reply:I had my flower girl carry a flower ball. Our wedding was pink and ivory so the flowers were differnent kinds of pink and ivory flowers and had a strand of pearl beads in it also. It had a silk ribbon that was tied on and she carried it by the ribbon. It was so much easier for her to hold and not get tired of it and it looked so cute. Hope this helps.
Reply:I would either have them carry a basket of flowers or make a headpiece of flowers for them to wear and just have them walk down the aisle and not carry anything. The only problem with having them carry something is at that age, they'll want to toss what they are carrying so it may be better just to have them wear a headband or circle of flowers in their hair and walk down the aisle carrying nothing.
Reply:The flower "balls" called pomanders are very popular. You can get your florist to make them fresh or you can buy them in silk at places like Hobby Lobby in white, ivory, and sometimes pale pink.

Also I have done a wedding with three flower girls where we had them carry a long garland with bows on it. They walked single file %26amp; all held on to the garland. It was cute.c++

Best bet is to take in this plant to a greenhouse grower, unless you have a pic that really broadens the plant type. Father in law owns commercial greenhouse he says send pic then he can tell you what it is..

It grows on a vine, on fences and stuff. Each flower is about the size of a quarter. Please help! It is my ex-girlfriend's favorite flower and I'm trying to win her back. But I can't find this flower or the name of it!

I AM A NOVICE AT THIS. I am about begin planting flowers in the flower beds, but I am new at this so any tips would be great. Plus I live in a southern state so I need flowers who can handle the hot humid weather, and are not delicate I am new at this, but pretty and reasonable priced.Any tips from are welcomed?Thank you colorful Preferably perenials
What kind of flowers you would recommend for outside flowerbeds in the south?starting flower beds any tips?
mexican tupils, most of all cos they survive in harsh environnment and then they have beautiful flowers and you can choose how you want them to grow, you can leave it grow like a tree or you can crop it, if you need a hedge the you make a hedge with lots of em, another option would be the bugambiglia. both come in many colors
Reply:Everbloom Hydrangeas are great and will bloom all summer, even the normal hydrangeas are gorgeous and probable my favorite. Lantana - butterflies love, I'm a northern transplant myself and find that roses any kind are so easy to grow in the south! My MIL has Knock out roses, more shrub like, can use a hedge trimmer on them, but they bloom their hearts out and provide great color! Iris for spring blooms, plant just below surface, no need to bring in over winter. Gladiolous, day lillies do great. Penta, Russian Sage, Mexican Petunias, Purple Cone flowers, dianthithus, Verbena, Vinca (reseeds itself), Marigolds (reseed), coreopsis, my neighbor lady has beautiful hollyhocks. I have'nt had great success with petunias or geraniums, maybe it's my soil?? Looking for great prices? I love to go to a big nursery's, even lowe's and other places reduced their prices by 50% on perennials by mid to late summer trying to move them out. Even if you plant them in the fall the root system gets a great start and will be bigger and better come spring since th ground doesn't freeze!
Reply:Daylilies are one of the best perennials in my opinion. They are virtually maintenance free, love the sun, and are continuously in bloom. You can plant them kind of sparsely, because they are very prolific, but they look great in mass plantings. Another perennial I like is white ginger. They are beautiful, smell awesome and again are maintenance free, other than cutting them back in the winter. They look terrible when they are dying off in the winter, but after cutting back, they come back without a hitch. If you hurry, you can plant seeds and have color in a few weeks. Things like Cosmos (they get very tall) or Zinnias are quick to bloom.

I live in Louisiana and look for things that are drought tolerant.
Reply:petunias, marigolds rose bushes. go to walmart and just look around and when you go check and see if the ones you think are pretty are wilted and if they are they arnt going to be able to stand the heat but some if you water them enough they will be ok. but just take a stroll around the garden section in walmart. or you can go to home depot and they can help you pick the right kind.
Reply:I love purple coneflowers and black eyed susans and they love the heat.

first off it has thick leaves and if you pinch them juice comes out. the edges of the leaves are bumpy. there are a lot of leaves surrounding the steam. then at the top are baby, pink flowers. there are 4-5 petals on each flower. they grow in a bush formation. the ends of the petals are a little pointy. the pollen things are way inside of the flower. and that's about all i can really describe. i would really appreciate it if you try and find out what type of flower it is. i've been looking and looking and can not figure it out. thanks so much!

Is there a flower that symbolizes "new beginnings"?

Im planning to get a tattoo today and im planning to get a flower thats called forget me not. I wanted to get this flower to represent my on going thoughts about my grandfather, which passed away last year in March. So I was wondering, since I just turned 21 today, of getting a flower that symbolizes new beginnings. I feel like turning 21 was just the addition that I needed to go along with my maturity. Does anyone know of a flower that represents new beginnings?
Is there a flower that symbolizes "new beginnings"?
Apparently Daffodils symbolise new beginnings but if there's only one then it means misfortune... apparently...

Also, it's the birthflower for March... if that would mean anything to you...

White is also a colour associated with new stuff...

That's what the internets telling me anyway, hope the tattoo goes well.make up

next step should be. Yep, this is a first for me. The soil appears to be in really good shape and removed all weeds and roots. Should I cover the bed with plastic and cut holes then plant the flowers? If so, after the flowers are planted, should I put something (bark perhaps?) on top of the plastic? Will the plastic provide too much moisture and destroy the roots of this particular flower? Do I need to mix potting soil with the dirt in my bed? Again, this is my first flower bed and I need instruction. Do you know anything about this particualr kind of flower? Your responses will be deeply appreciated.

P.S. I dont want to spend a fortune on upkeep. I live in central Kentucky. Thank you.
Just finished digging a 10' diameter flower garden (Dianthus varities) in our front yard. Uncertain what the
Dianthus definitely would not benefit from a plastic cover or bark. If your bed is surrounded by lawn, you might put in some kind of border to keep the grass from invading your flower bed. It could be natural rock, a ground level row of bricks, or simple bender-board. After that, you could add some soil amendments (compost being the first choice). However, if your soil is in really good condition already and not too heavy or too sandy, you will get at least mediocre results without adding anything. Dianthus is not especially fussy, so I wouldn't worry about soil acidity or alkalinity or heavy feeding. If your budget allows, add lots of compost. (I'm assuming you have to purchase it and don't already have your own compost as a newish gardener.) Dianthus is somewhat drought tolerant so you may have enough natural rainfall in Kentucky.
Reply:I live in Kentucky, too. This is what I have done to every one of my flower beds. Keep in mind that the dianthus will come back ever year if taken care.

1. level your ground.

2. Miracle Grow. Slow release or steady release formula, (not exactly sure what the name is).

3.Measure yard fabric and cut it a little bigger than the actual size you need.

4.Lay the plastic down on the level flower bed, (do not use the fabric pegs and this point to secure the yard fabric) place the flowers where you want them leaving enough room for the flowers to grow.

5.After you have the flowers laid out the way that you want then. I cut the holes shaped in an X pattern onto the yard fabric and pull the fabric up dig a hole large enough for the flower and put the miracle grow and the flower into the hole through the yard fabric this way you don't have to wiggle the fabric over the flower blooms.

6. When you are finished planting all of the flowers, secure the yard fabric into the ground with the fabric pegs.

7. Generously water the flowers

8. Place mulch over the yard fabric and water the first couple of weeks every day.

I hope that this help and the mulch will help keep the moisture in the ground during our hot summers. Enjoy.
Reply:Make sure the soil is fluffy enough to establish the roots of the new plants you want to use - till or 'garden weasel' or 'claw' your garden using a bag of peat and a bag of composted manure - (not fresh manure) or just compost and water well. This will help retain moisture and feed your plants.

Newspapers, plastic or landscape cloth layed over the soil covering the edges well - you could use an edging around the perimeter to keep the grass from rooting into your bed and avoid future weeding for that. This method helps retain moisture for your roots rather than them drying out too soon and requiring frequent waterings. I recommend the cloth because it aids in oxygen to the soil and roots.

Plant and be sure you are spacing them properly. Use 2 inches of shredded bark or your preferred mulch (nutshells, gravel) over all. Then you're ready to enjoy the rewards of your labor knowing you did it right the first time.

Dianthus are very interesting plants.

Does anyone know about the ANAHI flower and legend?

Hey there - I have heard the legend of Queen Anahi, who was put to death for leading the resistance of her city against the foreign invaders - she was tied to a tree and burned. The story has it that, when consumed by flames, her body turned into the most beautiful flower...

Some sources online have said that this is the Seibo (or 'Ceibo' flower) - a red flower from Paraguay/Uruguay - but others say that the flower is actually called 'Anahi' and is a white flower...

Anyone got any ideas? My lovely girlfriend is named Anahi, after the rebel queen (unbelievably fitting, but anyway) and I really want to find these flowers, or at least a painting of them...

All thoughts/comments/ideas appreciated... thanks - james

I dont think the whole turning into a flower thing is true, although I do not support them killing her if she was defending herself and her lands and she was doing it fair and for the right reasons.

I suggest you search www.wikipedia.com

Trumpet flower?

What are the unique features of the trumpet flower? what is the animal most likely to pollinate it? Why? Name another way another flower can be pollinated? What is the characterisitics of such a flower?
Trumpet flower?
1) Trumpet flower = Salpiglossis sinuata

Scientific classification

Kingdom: Plantae

Division: Magnoliophyta

Class: Magnoliopsida

Order: Solanales

Family: Solanaceae

Genus: Salpiglossis

Species: S. sinuata

Binomial name = Salpiglossis sinuata

Salpiglossis sinuata (Painted Tongue, Scalloped Tube Tongue, or Velvet Trumpet Flower) is a flowering plant in the family Solanaceae, native to southern Chile.

It is an annual or short-lived perennial herbaceous plant growing to 60 cm tall, rarely up to 1 m tall. The leaves are 4-10 cm long, elliptic to lanceolate, with a wavy, lobed or toothed margin. The flowers have a five-lobed funnel-shaped corolla, up to 7 cm long and 5.5 cm diameter, each lobe with a notched apex, velvety in texture, either violet or orange, and have contrasting darker stripes along each petal.

2) Trumpet flower =Yellow Jessamine

Scientific classification

Kingdom: Plantae

Division: Magnoliophyta

Class: Magnoliopsida

Order: Gentianales

Family: Gelsemiaceae

Genus: Gelsemium

Species: G. sempervirens

Binomial name =Gelsemium sempervirens

Yellow Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens), also known as Evening Trumpetflower or Carolina Jessamine, is a twining vine in the family Gelsemiaceae, native to warm temperate and tropical America from Guatemala north to the southeastern United States.

It can grow to 3-6 m high when given suitable climbing support in trees, with thin stems. The leaves are evergreen, lanceolate, 5-10 cm long and 1-1.5 cm broad, and lustrous, dark green. The flowers are borne in clusters, the individual flowers yellow, sometimes with an orange center, trumpet-shaped, 3 cm long and 2.5-3 cm broad.

All parts of this plant contain the toxic strychnine-related alkaloids gelsemine and gelseminine and should not be consumed. The sap may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Children, mistaking this flower for honeysuckle, have been poisoned by sucking the nectar from the flower. The nectar is also toxic to honeybees, and causes brood death when gathered by the bees.

Despite the hazards, this is a popular garden plant in warmer areas, frequently being trained to grow over arbors or to cover walls.

Yellow Jessamine is the state flower of South Carolina.

3)Trumpet flower = Datura

Any of several plants of the genus Datura, having trumpet-shaped flowers up to 25 centimeters (10 inches) long and usually prickly fruits. The leaves and seeds yield alkaloids with narcotic properties. Also called thorn apple.

Help! Several different flowering plants have brown-edged leaves in my flower boxes. What is this from?

I have several different types of flowering plants including geraniums in flower boxes. Almost all of them are developing brown-edged leaves. The only thing I put in the flower boxes is water and every two weeks some liquid fertilizer in water. I'm so disappointed. I've raised them all, except the geraniums, from seeds. I've used potting soil to plant them.

Does anyone know what this could be from? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks, Ann

What kind of flower...?

What kind of flower/plant is this:

Go here for a picture:

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h183/V...

It seems to have 5 petals, but they aren't separated petals. The inside has those things that sprout out - I don't know what those are called, sorry! - it has 10 of those, white in color. Then also on the inside the center is rimmed with a ring of dark pink. The flowers came off a big bush/plant and the were in clusters. Each little stem has about a 1/2 dozen little stems coming off it, each with 2 little flower buds coming off that. (Seen in the pic.) The inside center is white for the light pink ones, and light pink centers for the dark pink flowers - and all have that ring around their centers tho. Thanks so much.
What kind of flower...?
It's Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia) Gorgeous! (when well grown.) Remotely possible to be Sheep Laurel ,(K. angustifolia) but those colors in your pic are too vivid . Sheep Laurel is usually pale pink %26amp; is much less common . Rarely cultivated .

If you ever get inthe southern Catskills, in the"gunks" , (Shawangunk Mtns) at the right time , it's wall-to-wall Mtn Laurel along much of Rte44 ., esp. near Minnewaska Lake St. Park. Spectacular!

Zinnia? ;D "prince william" ? You mean "Sweet William"? That's Dianthus barbatus , an herbaceous biennial, or annual . 12"-30" . The plant in question is a shrub , so not that . Similar arrangement of flowers, though.

ps villandra , 50/50 that supposed pic of Sheep Laurel, is misidentified . Could be bad processing . Looks like Mtn Laurel . The "angustifolia" in the name , means "narrow-leaved ". It has leaves 1- 1 1/2" long by 3/4" to 1" wide , %26amp; are bluish-green , red-brown underneath. Btw It's only poisonous if eaten, %26amp; in lg qty, so nothing to worry about .
Reply:Like others said, a picture of the whole shrub/bush, or even more of the leave would be helpful.

When I first saw it, the flowers reminded me of the flowering quince (chaenomeles speciosa) bush I discovered on the property of the last house I owned - but I wasn't sure.

I did find a website that gives a description, but no photo of the prince william (amelanchier canadensis - (L.) Medik, common name juneberry, part of the rosaceae family), so I can't confirm if this is it, but at least now you have another name to search for.
Reply:Agree with Mike. Mountain Laurel.
Reply:It would help if I could see the entire plant, however I can tell you what it is not, it is not a zinnia. I have been growing zinnias for over 25 years and am a retired florist and is all my years have never seen a zinnia that even looked close to this.

I will continue to research your question however.

Cut flower garden- which plants grow best in the tropics?

I live on a Caribbean island. I'd like to put in a cut flower garden so I can do flower arrangements. Right now I have a lot of bird of paradise flowers, but I'm looking for some variety. I'd like to order some seeds from the US, and pick up whatever I can find locally. But I'm not sure what holds over well in a vase.
Cut flower garden- which plants grow best in the tropics?
I live on Maui, and Gingers, red, pink, and blue, do excellent here, and when I cut them the flowers will last a week or two. Try gingers, of course birds, orchids grow great here, just to name a few, but the best one is the ginger plant. I love those big red flowers. Also haleconia's grow excellent, and make beautiful flower arrangements.
Reply:send me some seeds
Reply:I am not knowledgable about tropical soils, temps, etc.; but if I lived in the tropics I would get some zinnia (annual) seeds %26amp; pot them up . I think zinnias are one of the best cut flower for a vase %26amp; come in many varieties, colors, shapes %26amp; sizes. The only thing lacking with this flower is it has no scent, so I don't know if you are looking for just color , but these would do well %26amp; are fairly easy to grow, have very sturdy stems %26amp; long lasting blooms.hairstyles hair style

Wedding question about flower girl and candle lighter?

this is what i am thinking for the flower girl and candle lighter. and if you tell me she is to old to be a flower girl i i don't know of any young girls she isn't she small and tiny for her age i just would like to know if i should put them in white dress with an indigo ribbon or keep it the way is was thinking. any suggestion grateful
Wedding question about flower girl and candle lighter?
I really think it's up to you, but I would definitely look for younger girls dresses rather than actual brdesmaids dresses.

The dress you listed is much too old for an 11 year old. I would suggest more of a junior bridesmaid dress, which is kind of in between a bridesmaids dress and a flower girl dress.

Don't worry if anyone says she is too old, my flower girl was 10 and tall from her age. It's your day and it doesn't matter how old your flower girl is!!

I also think it's nice that you want to include the candle lighter as part of your ceremony, I think if you want her in the same dress, that would be nice!

Here are some links for junior bridesmaid dressed. Good luck!
Reply:Maybe you could have the flower girl in the same style as the bridesmaids with the shorter skirt and the candlelighter can just wear something else...

Doesn't a candlelighter only light a candle in the ceremony right? I would give her a whole different look... Make her standout :)
Reply:For the flower girl, I like when they wear a cute white dress, rather than matching the bridesmaids. And of course she isn't too old to be a flower girl - usually the problem is that people use flower girls too young, like 3 or 4.

For the candle lighter, can't help you. I wouldn't think it was a position which needed other than her own dress clothes.
Reply:That young lady is too old to be a flower girl; she is, however, just right to be a junior bridesmaid. I see nothing wrong with that dress you have chosen, especially if you give your attendants shawls or have the junior maid wear capsleeves.

I don't really understand your term "candle-lighter": are you referring to an acolyte? If so, then he or she should wear proper robes as the church dictates. If you mean some other practice, then I can't help you. The so-called Unity Candle has always eluded me.
Reply:I think the bridesmaids outfits look a touch mature for eleven. On the other hand, the average flower girl dress could be a bit babyish for them.

Would it be possible to find age-appropriate party dresses for them in a color that coordinates with the bridesmaids? Something knee-length or so that isn't too slinky and adult or too puffy and childish.
Reply:my daughter was a flower girl with the same type of dress as the bridesmaids it looked lovely and that way everyone is the same.
Reply:i would go white dress for the flower girl otherwise she will look like a bridesmaid and i have always seen the candles lit by ushers, moms, or already lit so i dont know on that one
Reply:The dress is nice, but does it make the girls look as though, it is to old for them. You really need to just have them to try it on and see what it looks like.genealogy mormon

Allegory- A beautiful flower seed has come into my possesion, I need help?

This is Allegory/Symbolism.

A beautiful flower, while just a seed is in my possession. The problem is, if you sow this seed in the wrong soil, it will not grow, in fact it will wither away. The soil that it needs is also very special and hard to find. To make this flower grow I also need pure water and sunlight. All these things and loving care. But knowing that the flower needs these things is not as important as obtaining these things. How does one obtain the perfect combination of loving care, pure water, fertile soil and sunlight? Spirituality is sometimes the love between two souls. Gardener, flowers and the space inbetween
Allegory- A beautiful flower seed has come into my possesion, I need help?
The "beautiful flower seed" is you.

The ideal soil, pure water and sunlight required for it to flourish are the family, friends. lovers and nurturing personal environment you must appreciate, cultivate and maintain to reach your potential.

Obtaining these "things" is a personal. often lifelong quest but, once the quest is undertaken, the seed will take care of itself.

And there ya' go, Grasshopper.

What do you think about having a flower girl and ring bearer in a wedding?

I am getting married in May and I am undecided as to whether or not I should have a flower girl/ring bearer. The wedding is semi-formal and is going to be outside. It's going to be an adults wedding only as my fiance and I don't want children at the wedding.I know it's my fiance's and my decision, but I am having a tough time deciding. What do most of you think? Also, I already asked my friend's daughter if she would be my flower girl and she excepted the position, but now I am having second thoughts about the flower girl/ring bearer.Did most of you have flower girls/ring bearers? Also, If I decide not to have the flower girl,do you think it would hurt the little girl's feelings(and flower girl's mom, my friend)if I said we decided not to have a flower girl? She is 6.I am leaning towards not having the kids in the wedding, but I would have to pay for the dress/shoes/hair, the boys suit, etc and I don't have the money for this.I know I should of chkd my budget 1st b4 asking but didnt. TY!
What do you think about having a flower girl and ring bearer in a wedding?
I think flower girls and ring bearers are cute. Since you already told the little girl she could do it, you can't back out on her now.
Reply:It sort of causes problems that you've already told her she could be the flower girl. But you could always explain it to her parents the issue at hand.

You don't have to buy specific anything for the flower girl. She could wear a more affordable frock and you can just use a regular small throw pillow with some ribbon sewed in the center to hold the rings. It can be made affordable, just don't go for stuff made especially for weddings.

For my wedding, I plan to use my HTB's dogs for both the positions. Of course, if we find they can't walk a straight line without being distracted by people, I'm just having one of my close friends do it. I don't know of any kids I'd want to perform that (besides relatives I hardly see).

Also, cut costs elsewhere, it'll make things easier (I know you probably are cutting costs quite a bit, so this may not be possible)
Reply:we didn't know anyone close to us that was the apporpriate age for a flower girl/ring bearor, so we asked my husband's grandfather (who is close to both of us) to be the honorary best man/ring holder). it was a way of incorporating him in the ceremony because he means so much to the both of us.
Reply:It is your wedding and you should do it as you wish. If you need to cut expenses, explain this to your friend. I am sure she will understand. Good luck.
Reply:I think they are always a cute addition to the wedding. Often lighten the crowd before the Bride enters the church.

You also get to teach the youth of today tradition for tomorrow.
Reply:its entirly up to you to decide this. but its traditional to have a ring bearer and a flower girl and if you have already told her she could be a flower girl then telling her now will of course hurt her fillings and her parents just explain to them like it is. that you cannot afford the dress, shoes and hair and you do not want them either to have to pay the money for them and with many apologies they might not be as angry with you good luck
Reply:For our wedding, we didn't have them, simply because there was no one of suitable age in our families to do the roles. However most people have them, or at least a flower girl.

BUT, we had TONS of kids at our wedding, of all ages. Weddings are for families!
Reply:it is tradition to have both-considering its your wedding you can be the judge-

GOOD-LUCK
Reply:you can't ban children from your wedding AND have a flower girl. oh, and how are you going to tell that little girl she's fired?

flower girls and ring bearers should be nieces and nephews only. don't have 'em, no biggie you don't need these in your wedding party.

so, you're stuck. which is a bigger hardship - the potential loss of a friend or the $ to reimburse your former friend?
Reply:Its really all up to you and your fiance. Obviously, if you don't have the money in the budget thats going to cause a problem. On the other hand, you did already tell your friends daughter she was going to be a part of it and I know from past weddings that many times the adults tell the child "Your job is very important...etc" and with the child being 6 i'm not sure if it would even matter to her either way. If you don't have children in the wedding its a lot easier to have a flowing processional and not have to worry if the children are going to cooperate. But on the other hand, little kids, esp little boys in suits are adorable!

Its completely up to you though. And dont feel that you HAVE to include the children. This is your and your finace's day and the child's mother should understand that.
Reply:I've never been to a wedding that didn't have both...
Reply:I am not doing it for mine...kids mean drama...and not just because they get tired and whiny but especially with flower girls, their mothers are NUTS!!!
Reply:Yes I did have 2 flower girls and a ring bearer, but if you don't want children then you can't have either. If you already asked the child it would be a shame to diaappoint her. This is one of the biggest days of your life do what ever you feel comfortable with. You could always ask the flower girls/ring bearers parents to furnish the attire, and if they can't do it then they must break the bad news to the children.
Reply:Well if you did have enough money, it is a cute tradition in a wedding, but it's totally up to you.
Reply:we are not having them just because we dont have any little kids in our family that we are close too and also, you would not have to pay for their attire, the mother would if that helps at all.
Reply:I am not in favor of flower girls and ring bearers as I have seen too many weddings where they either steal the show or panic walking down the aisle. That being said, I think it is wrong to change your mind now since you already asked the little girl. She should be fine as she is six years old. I would just have her and forget about the ring bearer. Congratulations on your wedding.
Reply:I think that having just a flower girl would be fine. You don't have to necessarily have a ring bearer, and you could have her exit to go sit with her mother once she does her thing. As for dress/shoes/ hair...You could pick up a nice little dress in a color close to what you have picked out, or even browse the second hand shops to see if you can find something close. And you dont have to spend a fortune on a dress pair of shoes especially if it is for one day....see if her mom has a pair, or take her to payless or someplace reasonable for a pair of shoes...Hair, buy a nice little headband or little combs with flowers, and have her mom put them in her hair before the ceremony...You don't have to spend a fortune, maybe $40 bucks or so for the whole outfit if you are lucky, and it would be worth it not to hurt the little girl's feelings or the mother's as well....
Reply:I think its cute when you have them in the wedding unless they are too young to follow directions and stand quietly for the ceremony. There's nothing worse then Mommy stage whispering to the kid to stand still 10 x's during the ceremony. If you believe the kids you have chosen are capable of this then include them and then ask the parents to drop them with the sitter for the reception. Even better offer to pay for the sitter. If the kids aren't able to cooperate then you would be better of saying that you have changed your mind. Tell the flower girl yourself and I suggest you have a new barbie doll handy when you apologize. Explain to the parents that while you would love to have their child in the wedding your budget won't allow for it now. Why are you paying for the clothes/hair/shoes anyway? Traditionally the parents should pay for all this.
Reply:Yes I had both and they were a lovely addition to the wedding. :)

It is your wedding and you should have it as you wish, but you might want to talk to your friend and see what she thinks. Explain to her that you went over your budget and need to cut expenses. I'm sure she will understand. Maybe she can buy her daughters dress. Good luck.

Reply:I recently attended a wedding that didn't have a ring bearer and the flower girl was the bride's little sister (20 or 21 years old) U could try having the bridemaids throw flowers?? Start a tradition. Congrats and Good Luck!!
Reply:It sounds like you don't want the kids there. The little girl will probably be disappointed but it is your wedding. Good luck.
Reply:if you already promised but you still don't want a flower girl make her a junior bridesmaid, that way she has to buy her own dress, you don't need to pair her up with a ring bearer, and you can still keep the no kids policy!

Good Luck on your wedding day!
Reply:personally I think kids in the wedding are a recipe for disaster...
Reply:Having children in a wedding takes attention away from the bride and groom. No matter how beautiful the bride looks or how handsome the groom is in his tux they can't compete with cute little dressed up kids.
Reply:Well, I think it's a bit hypocritical not to invite cildren but to have them as part of your wedding party, however since you have already asked the little girl, you should at least have her in the wedding if not a little ring bearer. Not only would it disappoint her now to not be in the wedding, but it's just rude to take back such an invitation.

Also, you do not have to pay for the children's outfits. Their parents pay for them, just as bridesmaids and groomsmen pay for their own attire. The only expense to you is buying them a gift as you would for other attendants, but thi is a considerably smaller expense than buying the outfits.
Reply:since your wedding is going to be semi-formal, you could save expenses by having the flower girl and ring bearer dress more casual than the traditional little suit and fluffy dress. you really shouldn't back out of having the flower girl now that you already asked the little girl. she's only six, and it would break her heart! hope it turns out ok.
Reply:Flower Girls and Ring Bearers can be put into two categories . . they are either very well behaved or a nightmare . . and I have witnessed both hundreds of times.

I have seen children truly enjoy the experience of "walking down the aisle" and being in a wedding . . and I have witnessed children refuse to walk down the aisle, lock themselves in the bathroom, scream, cry, shout, pout, and being just plain difficult to work with (at both the rehearsal and the actual wedidng).

Most children do not know what the words "wedding" or "marriage" mean and most of them do not care.

When that child (or children) see all those people staring at them as they get ready to walk "down the aisle" they either become frightened or excited and no amount of preparation is going to change that.

It is their parents who make a "big deal" out of being a Flower Girl or Ring Bearer. And most of these parents spend hundreds of dollars on dresses, tuxedos, shoes, and hair dressing appointments. I know of one Grandmother who had a $350 custom made dress made for her 18 month old granddaughter (the Bride and Groom's child) and no one even saw "the flower girl's dress" because the babysitter took the child home before the ceremony even began.

As the Bride, you are not obligated to purchase the Flower Girl's dress or the Ring Bearer's suit, that is their parent's responsibility. You can offer to pay or help pay for one of the items, but you are not obligated to pay for anything. It is very important that the child's parents never assume that YOU are paying for the dress or tuxedo, you have to tell them it is their responsibility.

If you decide not to have a Flower Girl then give her something else to do like hand out programs or bubbles.

Reply:Personally, I didn't want a flower girl or ring bearer...there are a lot of little girls on both of our sides (5 of them under the age of 10) so obviously that was out of the question, and there is only one little boy, who was only 3 and didn't even come to the ceremony anyhow! I think they draw too much attention away from the newly married couple. As for the junior bridesmaid idea...that sounds a little silly...she's only 6!! And I don't think you can tell her that you decided not to have a flower girl since you already invited her. Maybe ask her mom if she can pay for hair/dress/shoes. After all, the wedding party usually pays for their own things, and she's in the wedding party..right? I've never heard of the bride having to pay for the flower girl and ring bearer's clothes/accessories...
Reply:Sounds like you are not much of a kid person if the children are not invited to the wedding anyhow...It all depends on why you would choose for the kids to be in the wedding. We just got married the beginning of this month and I had my godson as our ring bearer and my only neice as the flower girl. I think 6 years is perfect for a flower girl. Mine was 2 1/2 and she never walked down anyhow. :0(

Why did you feel that you needed to pay for everything for them? I just got them gifts for being part of the wedding party.
Reply:I did not have any children, nor a flower girl or ring bearer at my wedding and I think it worked out for the best. I didn't want the added stress of a possible tantrum, stage fright, etc. beforehand.acting resources

Teal Flower?

Hey, my cousin's wedding is coming up (NEXT WEEK) and I want to put a flower in my hair. Her colors are teal and like a lime green (celadon to be more specific). Anyone know of a flower that I can put in my hair? I'm down for a silk hair flower accessory also (you know, so that it won't wilt).
Teal Flower?
white would be fine, or you could go to a flower shop and ask them to dye a flower for you, a lily or an orchid would be pretty, the orchid is probably less likely to wilt so I would go with that.
Reply:um u coul use a sunflower or ten of them in lime green or teal Report It

Reply:u Report It

Reply:A light pink or magenta flower is sooo cute! Or! A bright orange!!! NOT NEON!

Good Luck!
Reply:A white tiger lily or a white lily would probably be better.
Reply:No matter what the colors of the wedding are, do white or light pinkperforming arts

Could you identify this flower? sorry i know i asked this before but this time i have pictures!?

Ok so i have this flower project where i need to key out and then press flowers for my Highschool. I found this one flowerand it is about 1 and a half feet tall, it has red leaves that when you look lower down into the stalk there is green. it has tiny white flowers that you cant see hardly unless you look through a magnifying glass...I am not certain on the following info!:

i am pretty sure it has...:5 petals, more than two sepals

oh and i live in northern california and the flower was in my backyard among easter lillies and ferns and other various wildflowers and grasses. it is in mostly shade but it is out int he open...and...i picked it today so it is out in the spring and in april...

I posted on your other question, and there are links to local wildflower ID sites. BUT off of the top of my head, it looks like a member of the carrot family, Apiaceae (although it is not a carrot, sorry!), which was formerly known as Umbelliferaceae. If it smells nice when you crush the leaves it is probably an herb which is naturalized, in which case I would look up "coriander" or 'chervil" and explore their genuses.

Edit: It may be a wild chervil. If it's not, it's probably in the same genus. It's hard to tell with fuzzy pictures.

Wild chervil: Chaerophyllum procumbens
Reply:could be a type of angiosperm {monocot}...A plant that produces fruits....Ive seen the leaves before but the pics are kind of fuzzy.
Reply:Haha! Thats quite scary ending up on another question. Anyway...Anthriscus sylvestris? I don't think the red on the leaves is normal. Looks like a nutrient deficiency possibly.fitness

Is there really a flower called Bleeding Hearts?

A friend of mines once told me of a flower called bleeding heart but he told me that it's only a flower that writers use in fictional stores.

Even though i do think my friend is right about it being used in fictional stores, i don't think it's a fake flower.

Am i wrong? If i right about it being real, can someone also tell me what the flower really looks like and what is the meaning of this flower?
Is there really a flower called Bleeding Hearts?
Yes there is a flower called bleeding hearts. Go into HillNurseries .com and it will let you look at the flowers. They really are neat looking. Kinda a long skinny shaped bell that hangs and has lots of flowers on each stem.

Can't help you with the meaning
Reply:Yes, Bleeding Hearts is a real plant. Very pretty. The flower's shape is heart and somehow look like a drop of blood is hanging down from the flower. I Live in zone 6 and my bleeding heart is breaking ground already. Mine is red.I don't know the meaning of this flower.
Reply:Yes, there are bleeding heart flowers. They are so called because they are somewhat heart shaped and they have what looks like a drop of blood coming from the bottom.

I don't think the flower has "a meaning" it is just that way because that's the way God created it. There is a book called "Bleeding Hearts" by Josh Aterovi. Bleeding hearts are beautiful shade plants. There are all white ones and the red ones. After they bloom they die completely back. You can't ever tell where they were, but as soon as spring arrives they come right back up. They are great. In fact, I went out and looked and my are just peeping through the ground.
Reply:There is such a flower and here is a icture:

ITS PINK AND WHITE WITH GREEN FOLAGE
Reply:I have a bunch of bleeding heart flowers they are really pretty when they bloom.
Reply:Yes, Dicentra spectabilis, also known as Venus's car or bleeding heart. It's a perennial, I have several of the pink variety in my garden. I've also seen white but they aren't as pretty.
Reply:Yes it is a real plant that likes shade or no direct sun. They come in white, pink and red. I have a white one that shows up nice in shade.affiliate

Does anyone make beaded flowers--I need a flower maker!?

HI there!

I have an upcoming wedding in September and have decided on beaded flowers in place of the traditional fresh flowers. I know I definetly want orange lillies, and possibly roses. I'm trying to get quotes from different flower makers for a total of 4 bouquets. Are you a beaded flower maker? Or do you know someone that makes them? If so, shoot me an email (with pics of your work if possible) and maybe we can talk some buisness! thanks!

What color flower corsage to go with apple green colored dress with black accents?

Serious, helpful answers only please.

My daughter picked out a prom dress. But I think it's going to be hard for her date to select a flower color. The dress is a Jessica McClintock and is apple green, satin fabric with satin black trim at the bodice %26amp; waistline. She's probably going with black shoes and jewelry.

Would different jewelry allow for more flower selections?

She wants to wear her hair up %26amp; maybe with a flower. What color and types of flowers could she use that would go with this color of dress?

Go to this link to see the dress (it looks better in person)

What color flower corsage to go with apple green colored dress with black accents?
Ok - for the sake of being equally graphic, I'll send you to a color wheel site.

The exact opposite color of that apple green dress would be a soft red-violet or lavender colored flower. Opposite colors vibrate off one another and seem to be brighter.

Red is the opposite of true green, but red may be a bit much.

With that fresh green color - deep yellows would be beautiful.

Remaining in a similar color family, light to moderate blues would also be beautiful.

White roses and carnations that have their stems freshly cut - then put into water that has food coloring in it will draw the color into themselves and turn the color of the food colored water. He could get roses or carnations "dyed" to the color of her dress that are trimmed with VERY THIN black ribbon accents and baby's breath.

Flowers the color of the dress would allow for the jewelry to be the focus. Flowers the exact opposite of the color of the dress will make themselves the focus. Flowers that are to the right or left of the apple green on the color wheel will simply compliment the dress.

I hope they have a wonderful time! Peace!

Reply:White or pale pink flower would do fine. It would neutralize the apple green and black colors, which are actually dark for young girls to wear.

Diamond jewelry (esp. the necklace, whether genuine or imitation is fine) would be suitable for accent.

I think your daughter has a sophisticated taste, and she will carry it well at her prom.
Reply:I would pair the dress up with silver jewelry and then choose a simple single white flower for her hair, an orchid perhaps, elegant and simple. Then maybe an orchid with a modest amount of greens as a wrist corsage....
Reply:well, that i hard because of the black you could do a simple white with green leaves, or maybe a fun color and change the jewelry
Reply:yellow
Reply:I would go with a pale or bright pink, or perhaps a combination of both.

I think pink and green together is very refreshing.

The only other thing I can think of is something in a darker green, but I think it would be a bit much.
Reply:Go for peach to contrast the apple green.
Reply:It sounds like the trouble I had when I went to prom in a light lime satin dress.

The dress sounds beautiful. I'd recommend taking a swatch, or the dress to the florist and letting them help you decide. I think a nice white rose/carnation could be perfect with silk ribbons in apple green (the florist sometimes can dye the ribbon to match the dress) black, and a clear, glittery color to go along with the corsage.

She'll look beautiful, I'm sure, no matter what you choose.
Reply:I would wear a headband since there so popular now. You could doyour hair with a tiara diamond headband or maybe just black velvet or black patent leather. Flowers in the hair just save that for your sisters wedding. Now a corsage would have to be white tiny baby roses with the same fabric that shows beneath your green dress. Remember think Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany,s" less is more.
Reply:a very pale pink ,blush,or a creamy off-white might look nice. try sticking with neutrals.hope she has a great time, dress is very pretty, good luck.
Reply:Your daughter's dress sounds lovely -- apple green is a great color. I'm not sure if the corsage is for the "wrist" or a "pin on the dress" one, but either way, my suggestion is the same:

A pale lilac flower nestled partly amidst the typical fine netting in as close a color of apple green as possible, along with small black satan ribbons nearing the bottom of a hand-held corsage. If "pin on" situate the corsage so that the black ribbons are hanging downward and not in front of his beautiful wife's face.
Reply:a cattleya orchid ^^,
Reply:ULL BE AMAZE HOW PURPLE AND GREEN GO REALLY WELL TOGETHER PUT A BIT OF BEIGE TOO

BUT IF URE CONSERVATIVE ILL STICK WITH BLK AND GREEN..
Reply:I would not go with a pale pink (it will look too Eastery) but rather a fuchsia colored flower mixed with some refreshing white baby's breath. I would choose a rose, carpet roses, baby roses or your standard rose. Since roses come in a variety, it would be pretty to have a selection of standard fuchsia roses with white baby roses surrounding them.

If she had white in the flowers, then she could wear jewelry with white in it, like pearls, so white chandelier earrings.skin disease

Should the flower on the corsage and bouttoneire be the same?

I'm taking my friend to her prom, and we agreed to go ahead and do the whole flower bit. But I wasn't sure if I could get her an orchid, freesia, or some other flower I thought looked nice, and if so should I tell her what kind? Does it look bad if the flowers aren't matching, like a rose corsage and a rose bouttoneire together? Would it look TOO weird if I got her a different exotic type of flower and she gives me a rose bouttoneire?
Should the flower on the corsage and bouttoneire be the same?
Whatever you go with will be just fine. The most important thing is to ask her what color her dress is, so you can get her a flower that matches.

As far as whether both flowers should be the same, I don't think they need to be. I think they should be the same or similar in color though.

Just my opinion! :)
Reply:I would ask here, she may have a favourite flower.

Its very considerate of you to think about her likes %26amp; dislikes too

Good Luck %26amp; have a great time.
Reply:no they dont need to be, be traditional with a rose or white flower or a favorite you both wantnanny
